A Tribute to Lennie Baker

A Tribute to Lennie Baker

It is with a very heavy heart that I dedicate this week’s Classic Nick rocks to our beloved Lennie Baker of Sha Na Na who peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 24th at South Shore Hospital at the age of 69.

Lennie was the best saxophone player to ever grace a stage but he was funny as well. As you watch these videos you will see his wonderful, and priceless, facial expressions that crack me up every time!

As I’ve said before I have never seen my Sha boys in concert, or have met any of them, they were a part of my childhood and now that I’ve rediscovered them as an adult I love them even more than I did when I was a little girl.

Goodbye our sweet Lennie, we love you and we miss you very much.

Special Delivery – Wild Rides

Nickelodeon Takes A Roller-Coaster Ride
Ellensburg Daily Record – March 19, 1982

By Debra Morgenstern Katz

Passive viewing is on the way out at Nickelodeon, which wants kids to get involved with television. Their new program “Wild Rides” (March 28) searches for the greatest roller-coaster ride in America – and you are there.

Matt Dillon hosts the half-hour show, which uses a new camera mount to make viewers feel as if they’re in the seat of the ride; the combination of rock music and the noise of the ride itself combine to provide the closest actual experience.

The pilots for “Kids’ Writes,” another show designed to get children actively involved with TV, make encore appearances on March 24 and 26. A troupe of five performers act out the letters, poems, riddles, dreams, songs and compositions that children have sent in, without changing the words or characters. It’s the closest kids can come to writing their own TV show.

Special Delivery - Water Babies

Plot
When a 12-year-old chimney sweep is wrongfully blamed for being a thief, he makes a run for it and ends up jumping into a violent river. There he encounters a civilization of anthropomorphic underwater creatures. Before he can return to the surface and clear his name, however, he must help rescue his new friends, the Water Babies, from their nemesis. Featured voices include those of James Mason, Bernard Cribbins and Tommy Pender. The film starts and ends similarly to the book, though in the book Tom actually dies, and is only allowed above the sea on a temporary basis. The movie also adds a whole new subplot, involving a Killer Shark, an Electric Eel and the mythical Kraken, who decides whether or not Tom can return to the surface. There are also several invented characters, which Tom befriends on his quest: Jock, a Scottish lobster, Terence, an effeminate star struck Seahorse, and Claude, a foppish French swordfish.

R.I.P. Grizzly Adams, You Will Be Greatly Missed :(

Press Release:
Dan Haggerty, a beloved Father and friend, has died at 4:30 this morning at St Joseph Hospital in Burbank, CA surrounded by his family that loved him. He had fought a long hard battle with cancer of the spine that was discovered in August of this year.
Dan was a beloved award winning actor in dozens of films and TV roles, but he will be remembered by millions of fans as the man who made Grizzly Adams famous. All the awards pale in comparison to his huge laugh and wonderful sense of humor that made everyone laugh with him. He would light up any room he entered. He loved life, loved his family, loved his friends and fans. The last words I heard him say were "I love you."
Terry Bomar
There will be private services for the family and public service later to be determined.

Our hearts are deeply saddened by the passing of Dan Haggerty. Dan was an incredible talent with a huge, loving spirit that brought happiness to millions of people. Our condolences go out to his family and management. Dan, you will be missed.

Special Delivery – The Velveteen Rabbit

**Please Note - I do not know if this is the one that aired on Nickelodeon but it is from the '80's and it's full length so this one will have to have to.**

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Velveteen Rabbit (or How Toys Become Real) is a children's book written by Margery Williams (also known as Margery Williams Bianco) and illustrated by William Nicholson. It chronicles the story of a stuffed rabbit and his desire to become real through the love of his owner. The book was first published in 1922 and has been republished many times since.

Show Title Needed

Show Title Needed

This post came from Mattniss Empowered on the Nickelodeon’s Special Delivery Community on Facebook. Can anyone help him out? Anyone know the name of this program or if he would be able to watch it online somewhere?

Thank you in advance,
Peggy Sue

Mattniss Empowered to Nickelodeon’s Special Delivery
I've been trying to locate a movie that I saw back in the 1980's on Special Delivery (I think). It was a Canadian Christmas movie and the plot revolved around an old man telling his grandson about this little lead soldier he got for Christmas one year. It flashed back to when he was a child and the Christmas he got it. There was a drunken uncle, a Christmas play (where the boy had to play Mary), and some other situations. I didn't really appreciate it then, but I think I would now. Any thoughts on what the title was?
