C/N Thanksgiving Sightings

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Can you believe that next month is Christmas?! Where has the time gone?

So by the time you read this is will be Thanksgiving day and I’m SOOO very sorry that I’m only just now getting this out to you but I wanted to let you know of an upcoming Classic Nickelodeon (C/N) sighing that will be in the McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on WGNA network.

In the past few years this parade has featured the costumed characters of Paddington Bear and Curious George as well as giant balloon characters of the same. Both of these were cartoons shown during Pinwheel, they were, as I call them, “Pinwheel Cartoons”.

Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Title Needed Please

Recently I changed to settings on my Facebook page, which caused a glitch in the syndication of this blog. Now that it’s all sorted out this is a repost of a blog I posted a few days ago. I am hoping that someone will be able to help Joe put a title to this description of a Classic Nickelodeon Special Delivery. ~ Thank you in advance.

Joe posted on Nickelodeon’s Special Delivery's Wall.
"Years ago, I recall seeing what I remember as anime on Special Delivery. It was about a space battle between machines/robots and some sort of planetary alliance. An untimatum was made by the machines and one member of the alliance, Cassiopia, elected to fight them and was destroyed. I am assuming this was on Special Delivery...it has wracked my mind for years despite my substantial google skills."

Anyone Remember This?

Hey yall,

Someone in my one of my Nickelodeon groups on Facebook posted this question to my wall. I don’t remember this show at all and I was wondering if any of you might be able to help this guy find the name of this show? ~ Thanks.

Nickelodeon Dream

Tuesday, August 23, 2011
In the dream it took a little while to get to the Nickelodeon part so I’ll skip right to that.

Somehow I had been lost in another city and managed to get a cell phone and eventually I wound up back at my Mom’s house. The phone rings and my dad answers it and they ask for me. When I said hello it was the producer from Double Dare and even though it was someone else’s phone that I had swiped (I never steal IRL but I was desperate in this dream) he was asking for me by name!!!

He told me that he had heard about my Nickelodeon Fan Meets and was asking me all about them and it sounded like he was interested in coming to the next one! How cool is that?! Now if I could just figure out IF I’m going to have another one that would be even cooler.

Anyway I just wanted to share that with yall b/c I thought it was really cool.

Black Beauty

Hey yall,

I wanted to let you know that the Family Net (channel) is now airing “The Adventures of Black Beauty” EVERYDAY at 2PM central time. This is wonderful news for all of us fans since they’ve only been showing it from 1-3AM every Sunday morning. Now it will be back on in the afternoon the way it was when it aired on Nickelodeon from the very early to mid 1980’s.

If you haven’t seen this classic is well worth your time to get acquainted with the series. In these modern times when children are out of control and no one wants to “get involved” this series brings back the old fashion values that parents want their children to learn as well as teaching them that helping their neighbor is a good thing.

The original Black Beauty aired from 1972-1974 in England on ITV and aired in the United States from the early to mid 1980’s. Then in 1990 a new series emerged, “The New Adventures of Black Beauty” aired from 1990-1991 and was a continuation of the 1970's series.

The 1970’s series was not an adaptation of the book by Anna Sewell, but a "continuation" featuring new characters created by Ted Willis, most prominently Dr James Gordon, played by William Lucas, and his children Vicky, played by Judi Bowker (who became Jenny, played by Stacy Dorning, in the second series) and Kevin, played by Roderick Shaw. Other writers included David Butler and Richard Carpenter, while directors included Charles Crichton and Peter Duffell. The series, which was filmed mainly at Stockers Farm, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, was widely acclaimed for its high production values and quality of writing and acting, and at times had remarkable English gothic overtones for a children's series. (From Wikipedia)

“The Adventures of Black Beauty” featured two of the characters from the original series, Dr James Gordon (played by William Lucas) and Jenny Gordon Denning (played by Stacy Dorning). The series was shown on ITV in the United Kingdom. Two seasons were produced, with 24 episodes being made in total and currently (also) airs on the Family Net (channel). The second season featured an entirely new story arch, which did not relate back to the original series the way the first season did.

Which ever episodes they start showing this week (at 2PM central time) will very much be worth watching and it’s a great way for the 80’s kids, like me, to relive their childhood memories! Hope you’ll be watching!!!

Kenan Thompson

I’m (very) slowly starting to realize that I need to expand this group just a little bit to not only our beloved 80’s programs but I need to start including some of the 90’s shows as well. The 80’s will always be the main focus of this group but I’m finding new articles on 90’s programs and thought that some of you might be interested. That being said…

For those of you who were fans of All That (1994-1999) and Kenan & Kel (1996-2000), Kenan Thompson will be lend his voice to the new Smurfs movie playing “Greedy Smurf”.

***Under the Mountain***

For those of you who have The Movie Channel East (TMCe) they are going to show the remake of The Third Eye classic “Under the Mountain” Thursday morning, 7:45 AM Central Standard time, check your time zone for the exact time.

Right now you can find the original “Under the Mountain” on YouTube for a refresher before you see the new movie (or after). I have seen this new version and it’s awesome, it’s very much a tribute to the original and I was on the edge of my seat though out the whole movie.

There are some small changes here and there, the opening is different and Mr. Jones has some new powers that he didn’t original have and the twins are at least 3-5 years older but it’s sooo good; really I just can’t say enough about this awesome remake.

The night this had come on one of the Starz channels and I found out that I had JUST missed it on TV (literally the credits were just rolling past the screen!) I ran out and bought it, went and picked up my Mom and came home and popped it in. And what was so cool was that I had taken the original to her house one day and we watched the whole thing together so naturally I wanted her with me when I watched the remake. Needless to say we had the best time watching this together.

For fans of the original “Under the Mountain” I HIGHLY recommend this movie!!!

Mini Fan Meet

Mini Fan Meet

URL - http://classic-nickelodeon-forever.jimdo.com/breaking-news/

BREAKING NEWS – Official Date is July 1-3, 2011 mark your calendars!!!

Since the last two fan meets have fallen though I’ve been discouraged thinking that it will never happen but maybe that’s not necessarily the case.

As you all know I live in Altus, OK and I have a friend who lives in Chickasha, OK, which is about three hours from me. We started talking the other day on Yahoo Messenger and thought that instead of a big huge proper fan meet like I was planning what about if we started A LOT smaller so here’s what we came up with.

Hold a “mini fan meet”, as we’re calling it, in Lawton, OK and just have it at a hotel room instead of like a proper banquette room. Everyone can just get their own room (downstairs if possible, I love yall but I have a very bad back and I don’t want to have to climb stairs for two days), she’s bringing a VCR/DVD player and I’m bringing the videos and DVDs and we’ll all just hang out in someone’s room and watch the old shows together. That way there’s no cost for a banquette room or tickets just the price of your room and food and we can all order pizza and I can take some microwave popcorn, someone can run to the store for soda or tea and just be very informal and hang out.

So what do yall think? Would any of you be interested in something like that as apposed to how I was doing it before? Also if you would like a list of the programs that I have to take with me for us to watch please let me know and I’ll post it to the you personally or on the list of whom ever asks me.

DATE – July 1-3, 2011

PLACE – Executive Inn
3134 NW Cache Rd.
Lawton, OK 73505
1-866-539-0036

LOWEST ROOM PRICE – $65

LINK – http://www.hotels.com/ho108131/executive-inn-hotel-conference-centre-lawton-united-states/#description

NOTE – This IS a nice hotel despite the reviews. My Mom and I have stay there every time we go to Lawton and we’ve never had any problems with them. The rooms are clean and come with a mini frig and coffee pot.

For more information contact me at peggysueclay@hotmail.com please add "Fan Meet" to the subject line.

Would any of you be interested in something like that as apposed to how I was doing it before?

We’re thinking maybe towards the last weekend in July possibly the first weekend in August, still working on the dates. And if it goes well we can do that once a year or more if we get the urge and like I said this way there’s no bothering with tickets or a big banquette room we’ll all just be hanging out enjoying our beloved Classic Nickelodeon.

So what do yall think?

To the TPDIS group – technically this post does seem off topic but since it was going out to several other lists were it was “on topic” I did not put “off topic” in the subject line. Also Nickelodeon showed the OS TP from October 1981 to the mid 1980’s so for most US fans that’s how we discovered the show in the first place. Soooo, if anyone is interested in this please contact me off list or on TP6 or A New Beginning For Classic Nickelodeon email or F/B group/page. Thank you.

To House of 80’s group – This is a “Classic Nickelodeon” fan meet which is focused specifically on the 1980’s so this is on topic for this group.

To Everyone – If you would like a list of the programs that I have to take with me for us to watch please let me know and I’ll post it to the you personally or on the list of whom ever asks me.

Program Title Needed

As most, or all, of you know we have a F/B page and group named after this group (A New Beginning For Classic Nickelodeon) but what you may not have known is that I have also set up a page & group for Nickelodeon’s Special Delivery – title self explanatory.

One of the members posted this on the wall and I told her that I would send this to the group and post on my Classic Nickelodeon Fan Blog as well to see if we can find out that the name of this show was. So here is her post, do any of you know that the name of this show is?

Lindsay posted on Nickelodeon’s Special Delivery's Wall. Lindsay wrote: "Does anyone remember the SD movie about a group of alien-type humans whose eyes glowed red when they saw gold or some kind of metal? It's been driving me crazy for years that I cannot think of the title!"

SID AND MARTY KROFFT’S H.R. PUFNSTUF CELEBRATES 40 YEARS

SID AND MARTY KROFFT’S H.R. PUFNSTUF CELEBRATES 40 YEARSBy First Comics News– February 21, 2011
Posted in: News

URL - http://www.firstcomicsnews.com/?p=20387

LOS ANGELES (February 21, 2011) – As H. R. Pufnstuf marks 40 years since the series ended its trailblazing run on Saturday mornings, Vivendi Entertainment honors the iconic Sid and Marty Krofft creation with H. R. PUFNSTUF: THE COMPLETE SERIES. This three-DVD collection features all 17 episodes, which were originally broadcast between 1969 and 1971.

Presented in standard and collector’s editions, both versions include the entire series accompanied by downloadable vintage coloring sheets, and – for the first time ever on DVD – the rare series episode, “Horror Hotel.” In addition, the Collector’s Edition comes with an exclusive H.R. Pufnstuf bobblehead. Each will be available April 12 at all retail outlets for a suggested list price of $24.99 (standard) and $34.97 (collector’s).

Four decades have past since H. R. Pufnstuf left NBC airwaves, but the colorful series remains popular, not only among those reliving their childhood, but also with others discovering the whimsical world of Living Island for the first time. As a testament to the series’ longevity, Los Angeles based KCET, the largest independent public television station in the country, recently added H. R. Pufnstuf to its weekend line-up of children’s programming.

H. R. PUFNSTUF: THE COMPLETE SERIES is the latest release to stem from the partnership the Krofft brothers and Vivendi Entertainment formed last year. The ongoing collaboration promises to produce a series of DVD sets and compilations that will spotlight the sibling puppeteer’s iconic catalog of children’s television shows.

One of those programs, Lidsville, is heading to the big screen courtesy of DreamWorks Animation. The Krofft brothers will serve as executive producers for the project, which marks the first animated feature film adaptation of their work.

The Kroffts have been producing entertainment treasured by families for more than 40 years. Sid & Marty rose to prominence in the ’70s with a series of remarkable programs that featured elaborate sets and fanciful characters. H.R. Pufnstuf was the first in a long line of popular programs created by the Kroffts, including The Bugaloos, Land Of The Lost, Sigmund & the Sea Monsters and The Krofft Supershow to name but a few. The Krofft’s success led them to produce various prime-time series and specials, including The Brady Bunch Hour, The Donny & Marie Show and Barbara Mandrell & The Mandrell Sisters series.

Special Delivery Remake Alert

Sorry I’m posting this so late in the day but this is the first chance I’ve had to get this to you all.

Tonight on the Starz Kids & Family channel they will air “The Ransom of Red Chief” a 1998 remake of the original 1975 movie, which aired as a Nickelodeon Special Delivery on April 1 & 16, 1982.

The new version was made in 1998 and stars Christopher Lloyd and Michael Jeter as: “A pair of bumbling hoboes who kidnap the rambunctious 9-year-old son of a local banker --- a plan that almost immediately begins to backfire.” (Comedy, 120 Mins.)

Elisabeth Sladen

This is neither Classic Nickelodeon nor TP but I know that Doctor Who & Elisabeth Sladen have been a huge part of most, if not all, of our lives for a very long time now and I thought it was only fitting that I post this.

Thursday 21 April 2011

Obituaries
Elisabeth Sladen

Elisabeth Sladen, the actress who died on Tuesday (4-19-11) aged 63, played Sarah-Jane Smith, the best-loved of the Doctor’s assistants in the cult television series Doctor Who; such was her popularity that, 30 years after leaving the show, the character was resurrected for a highly-successful sci-fi spin-off.

6:13PM BST 20 Apr 2011
As Sarah-Jane, Sladen brought a new, feisty element to the series. Before she joined in 1973, the Doctor’s attractive female assistants had largely been expected to scream in helpless horror at some unimaginable extraterrestrial outrage before being plucked from the tentacles of doom by the time-traveling hero. But Sarah-Jane, an independent-minded journalist, gave the two-dimensional role a hint of depth.

Sladen, a stage actress more used to Shakespeare, was helped in transforming the standard portrayal of the timelord’s sidekick by the arrival of Tom Baker in the principal role. She had initially teamed up with Jon Pertwee (the third “incarnation” of the Doctor), whom she described later as “very much the parental type, telling you what to do”.

But Baker, with his long scarf, floppy hat and mirthful irreverence (in one episode he offers Davros, creator of the Daleks, a Jelly Baby), encouraged greater independence. “Jon was a sort of dandy, caring Doctor and then Tom was much more: 'go out on your own and find and come back and tell’,” Sladen told one interviewer.

Baker and Sladen quickly won great affection among Doctor Who’s notoriously dedicated fans. She was no science-fiction addict herself, and confessed to being baffled on occasion by questions from aficionados of the show who scarcely seemed to accept that it was fiction. She even admitted to not knowing how the Doctor’s famous Police Box got its name (in fact, Tardis stands for Time and Relative Dimension in Space).

But this did not dim her appeal, and fans celebrated when, in 2006, 30 years after leaving the series, Elisabeth Sladen returned to Doctor Who, in an episode called “School Reunion”. The programme sketched out the path Sarah-Jane’s life had taken in the years since she and the Doctor had said their goodbyes on an Aberdeen street (the Doctor had intended Croydon, but erred in navigation).

Such was its success that she was invited to lunch by the show’s executive producer, Russell T Davies. Worried that she would be asked to appear in more bit-parts, she prepared her excuses. “I was actually thinking: 'How can I turn this down?’” In fact, Davies offered her the lead role in a children’s series of her own, entitled The Sarah Jane Adventures. Though filmed on the same set as Doctor Who, and sharing some monsters and characters (including walk-ons from the Doctor), the series recast the former sidekick as the heroine. It proved a smash hit, generating warm reviews, a Children’s BAFTA nomination, and three further series.

Elisabeth Sladen was born in Liverpool on February 1 1948 and went to Sunday School in Penny Lane. She attended drama school in the city before joining the Liverpool Playhouse as “a dogsbody”. She graduated from stagehand work to on-stage roles and began to travel regularly for repertory, working in Scarborough with Alan Ayckbourn, and in Manchester and at the Royal Court, London.

Small television roles followed in the early 1970s, first in Coronation Street and then in Z-Cars. Elisabeth Sladen appeared in two episodes of the police drama, as two different characters. The first was a demure teenage girl, the second “a tarty scrubber from Liverpool”. It was this performance that led to her breakthrough in Doctor Who, when the producer of Z-Cars recommended her to his opposite number on Doctor Who, Barry Letts, who was looking for a replacement for Katy Manning, the outgoing Doctor’s assistant.

Her first appearance on the show was in the story “The Time Warrior”, in which she and the Doctor meet while simultaneously investigating the disappearance of scientists at a research facility. During 80 episodes over the next four years, she encountered Cybermen and Daleks, among many other ill-intentioned extraterrestrials.

After leaving Doctor Who in 1976, Elisabeth Sladen returned to the Liverpool Playhouse and mixed drama with the occasional television appearance, in productions such as Gulliver in Lilliput and Alice in Wonderland. In 1981 she filmed a pilot for a proposed Doctor Who spin-off, K-9 and Company, but it was not commissioned. Another Doctor Who appearance came in 1983, for the 20th anniversary edition of the programme, “The Five Doctors”.

Elisabeth Sladen married, in 1968, the actor Brian Miller. He survives her, as does their daughter.

MY FIRST TIME ON TV – WHAT A SKIVER!

MY FIRST TIME ON TV – WHAT A SKIVER!

“My first break into television came when I was 15 and was offered the lead role in LWT’s series Black Beauty.

Although it was what every little girl dreamed of, I wasn’t desperate in the least to become an actress. In fact, I’d done a bit of acting before and had sworn I’d never do it again!

Five years before, when I was just 10 years old, I’d had a part in the film Cromwell with Richard Harris and had absolutely hated it!

I thought it was a very silly way to earn a living, and I had found it dreadfully uncomfortable, with a dress that was too tight and those horrid hot lights that made me feel like I was going to faint!

I’d heard of suffering for my art, but this was ridiculous!

After that experience, I decided showbiz was not for me, and put my energies into becoming a nurse. I studied very hard at school to get the right qualifications, until the school took us to a hospital where I saw terminally ill children and elderly people in the geriatric ward. I knew then that I wouldn’t be able to make it as a nurse, so it was back to the drawing board. I was very depressed about it, and thoroughly confused.

Then out of the blue, my mother, who was also an actress, got a call from her agent who said that the producers of Black Beauty were looking for a teenage girl to take over the lead role in the series, and he thought I would be perfect.

I went to see LWT on Thursday, mainly because I wanted to skive off school for the day. By the following Monday I was at the farm in Richmansworth and the very next day I was told I had the part, and was to start filming 10 days later! It was all so sudden that I didn’t really have time to think about what was going on.

There was only one slight problem though – I didn’t know how to ride a horse, so the next week and a half before filming started were spent in the saddle with loads of padding under my bottom, desperately learning how to ride so that hopefully I would look like a professional.

My initial fear of horses soon left me, and although I was stiff and bruised I couldn’t wait to get back in the saddle.

I did nine months of filming and it was one of the happiest times of my life. Everyone I worked with on the series was absolutely lovely.

It was totally different to the filming Cromwell, and all the aspects I had hated about filming that weren’t there when I was filming Black Beauty. Firstly, Beauty was mainly on location so there were none of those horrid studio lights, and my costume was much more comfortable!

Needless to say, the acting bug really hit me, and I’m afraid I never gave nursing another thought!”

How To Make A Gumby Costume
by eHow Holidays & Celebrations Editor
Link - http://www.ehow.com/how_2067142_make-gumby-costume.html
Introduction

This cute television icon seems like a good candidate for a Halloween costume, but Gumby is actually an ambitious choice. For a complete Gumby, the costume will cover the entire body, and it might take awhile to get using to walking inside of it. Nevertheless, there are always different ways to go based on degrees of authenticity.

Things You'll Need
Styrofoam sheets
Glue
Exacto knife or scissors
Green craft paint

Step One - Get Styrofoam sheets. For an authentic Gumby costume, Styrofoam is the best, You'll want a sheet at least as tall as the person who will wear the costume, and several feet wide, enough to cut out limbs and spare pieces.

Step Two - Cut out the body, arms, and legs. You can use an exacto knife or even scissors, but you'll probably need to hold the material down as you cut, or it will be too hard to cut through.

Step Three - Lay out the pieces so you know what goes where. You'll want two of each piece, a front and a back.

Step Four - Glue pieces together. Experts recommend a PVA glue like Weldbond, but with the disclaimer that PVAs need pressure to bond. You can use heavy objects to pressure the Styrofoam pieces while they dry, or you can go with a lighter glue that bonds without pressure.

Step Five - Let pieces dry.

Step Six - Paint them green. Use craft glue that is found at a craft or hobby store.

Step Seven - Add features such as mouth and googly eyes. You can use any kind of material for the eyes.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure your Gumby costume is properly ventilated. Design a hole for breathing and two holes for eyes. Also, make sure any fumes from the glue have dissipated before putting the costume on.

Jeff Hyslop "Likes" My Logo Pic!

The other night while I was roaming around F/B I had a notice for Jeff Hyslop (Jeff from Today’s Special). Since I had never gotten a notice from his page before I thought that perhaps he had approved my friend request. Sadly that was not the cast but when I looked at his “Activities and Interests” in the “Other” category I saw a link to the New Years Nickelodeon Logo I created!!! I guess you can go to Photobucket and “like” pictures on there but I thought that was pretty darn cool that he liked the picture that I created!!! (Which I’m inclosing.)

Here is how it was listed on his page.

House of Anubis – My Review

First I’d like to start off by apologizing for taking so long to get this posted, I actually missed the initial airing of the premier on the first (I was so tired that I fell asleep and missed it!) But thankfully Monday the 10th and Tuesday 11th they re-aired the premier episodes so I was able to watch it from the beginning despite having missed it yesterday. (Wasn’t my fault, had to take my Mom to get her eyes examined and thank you Jesus that it wasn’t cataracts as the first doctor had told her it was.)

Anyway…the show really is as good as I thought it would be, it really is like the old Third Eye episodes that use to air back in the day and since I have all four of the original titles and watched them last year I should know what I’m talking about. Heck, I’ve even got my Mom hooked on it and she said exactly the same thing.

It’s mysterious and a little bit creepy and it really does keep you guessing as to what’s going to happen next. The acting…it is a little flimsy but the fact that it’s so well written really makes up for that. The ONLY thing I don’t like about the show is all that teenage romance garbage. I think Alfie and Amber are totally useless and do nothing to move the story along but then as I said I missed it yesterday and from the description Amber had a big part in discovering one of the clues so perhaps I should hold off judgment on her.

As of right now I think Patricia if my favorite character, she’s passionate and driven to find out that has happened to Joy which I really like however I do think that if she would just give Nina (the American girl right?) half a chance I think she’d find out a lot faster since I think that the two stories will eventually come together.

The commercials for the show are really good, they really make you want to tune in and find out what’s happening next time and the fact that you can follow along online is pretty cool however I do not. Yea, I’ve just got too much going on as always, plus it’s more fun to just watch every night and find out. But while I’m watching it I can’t help but think about The Sarah Jane Adventures and H2O: Just Add Water since I had mentioned once before that they also reminded me of The Third Eye as well and it make me wonder what other show could be added to these three to have the four story arches like in the old days. Anyone have any ideas?

Everyone take care, thank you for reading and if you happen to have Facebook you can now follow this blog though NetworkedBlogs as well.

With 'Curious George,' Illumination Looks To Make More Animation Mischief

With 'Curious George,' Illumination Looks To Make More Animation Mischief
July 30, 2010 | 1:04 pm

EXCLUSIVE: Filmgoers soon will have another round of adventures with the Man With the Yellow Hat.

Illumination Entertainment, the animation company founded by former Fox Animation President Chris Meledandri and whose movies Universal finances and distributes, is developing a new version of "Curious George."

The movie is expected to feature the wry animated images of "Despicable Me" and will spin a new story of George the monkey/chimpanzee (depending on whether you favor H.A. and Margret Rey's text or the tail-less images) who's taken out of the jungle by an eccentric explorer to live in the city, where mischief always seems to find him.

Universal and production company Imagine produced an animated "Curious George" just four years ago, in which Will Ferrell voiced the Man With the Yellow hat. Mired in development for years, the movie didn't entirely catch on with filmgoers, grossing just $58 million in the U.S. (A second installment, "Curious George 2: Follow that Monkey!," came out as a direct-to-DVD release in 2009.)

The Illumination film is expected to start from scratch. It's getting a script from Larry Stuckey, who wrote the upcoming "Little Fockers," the third installment in the "Meet the Parents" franchise, for Universal.

Universal is very keen on Illumination, which with "Despicable" gave the studio a long-awaited family-friendly animation hit. After the success of that film, Meledandri's company is also developing "Where's Waldo?" and "Dr. Seuss' the Lorax" movies as well as a sequel to "Despicable Me."

Reboots of movies that haven't been gone very long -- "Haunted Mansion" and "Spider-Man" -- continue to remain in vogue in Hollywood. They'll be an adventure, but we suppose if any character is up for one, it's Curious George.
