NickCon 2019 Update

For me this has been a VERY, VERY long road but it will be well worth it when we are finally able to bring my dream into fruition. Now, with that, I have bad news, and then I have better news so here we go.

When we last saw our heroin she has just missed a call from her contact at Nickelodeon legal department. Not being discouraged she (I) called back the next day and…got a busy signal. Naturally. But the woman called me back and said that Nickelodeon does not endorse fan gatherings of any kind therefore they will not allow us to use the Double Dare set for our NickCon event. Very sad indeed. For as big as they are you’d think that they would be happy that SOMEONE out there in the world remembers them before they were even Nickelodeon, and they said they did but still won’t let us use the Double Dare set.

My next question to her was, do you have a problem if we asked Marc Summers to come down by himself without the Double Dare set? She said that he was free to make that decision on his own but still they will not endorse our event.

When I contacted Mr. Bush, President of the Altus Chamber of Commerce with that news he too was discouraged however after a few emails we have decided that we do not want this event to die off just because Nickelodeon will not support us. He also said that he is going to start looking at upcoming dates and locations for the event!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are approaching the fuse! – In other words, we are about to take our first steps to really getting this thing off the ground!

Now, before we all go running around like chickens with our heads cut off in sheer joy (and for me that’s very hard right now) let’s take a moment to breath. There is still a lot of work to be done and I have not asked Marc if he would be like to, or if he would be available to, come because I wanted to talk to Brian (Bush) about it first.

At the moment of this posting the following guests have agreed to attend, they are just waiting on dates:

Marty Schiff, Out of Control

George James, Pinwheel

Patricia, from Old School Lane

Scott and Adam, from The Orange Years (hopefully they will be available)
Matthew Klickstein (hopefully he will be available)

Other guests are being discussed but we will have to wait and see.

So, for now, that’s what’s going on. Needless to say, I am very excited but I’m still trying to keep my head glued on. I’m very happy and thankful to Brian for sitting down with me and listening to this idea and I’m very thankful to have him helping me with it. If any of you would like to thank him, please post your comments and I will make sure that he sees them.

Since the last two fan meets have fallen though I’ve been discouraged thinking that it will never happen but maybe that’s not necessarily the case.

As you all know I live in Altus, OK and I have a friend who lives in Chickasha, OK, which is about three hours from me. We started talking the other day on Yahoo Messenger and thought that instead of a big huge proper fan meet like I was planning what about if we started A LOT smaller so here’s what we came up with.

Hold a “mini fan meet”, as we’re calling it, in Lawton, OK and just have it at a hotel room instead of like a proper banquette room. Everyone can just get their own room (downstairs if possible, I love yall but I have a very bad back and I don’t want to have to climb stairs for two days), she’s bringing a VCR/DVD player and I’m bringing the videos and DVDs and we’ll all just hang out in someone’s room and watch the old shows together. That way there’s no cost for a banquette room or tickets just the price of your room and food and we can all order pizza and I can take some microwave popcorn, someone can run to the store for soda or tea and just be very informal and hang out.

So what do yall think? Would any of you be interested in something like that as apposed to how I was doing it before? Also if you would like a list of the programs that I have to take with me for us to watch please let me know and I’ll post it to the you personally or on the list of whom ever asks me.

We’re thinking maybe towards the last weekend in July possibly the first weekend in August, still working on the dates. And if it goes well we can do that once a year or more if we get the urge and like I said this way there’s no bothering with tickets or a big banquette room we’ll all just be hanging out enjoying our beloved Classic Nickelodeon.

To the TPDIS group – technically this post does seem off topic but since it was going out to several other lists were it was “on topic” I did not put “off topic” in the subject line. Also Nickelodeon showed the OS TP from October 1981 to the mid 1980’s so for most US fans that’s how we discovered the show in the first place. Announcement - Fan Meet

To those of you who are planning to attend or to those of you who are considering attending.

I just wanted to let yall know that there will be a meal provided on Saturday, October 2 and that tickets MUST be purchased prior to the event, tickets WILL NOT be available at the door and the cut off date is September 29, 2010.

If by that time I have not had a response to the meet (no tickets have been sold) then this event will be canceled with little to no expectation of another being planned.

Can Yall Help?

The other day I had a bit of a revelation and I was wondering if yall could help me out?

While my mom and I were talking abut the fan meet I was telling her how I went to one of the local newspapers and took them the information about the fan meet and then it hit me. What I need is to get the word out about this fan meet otherwise I might get stuck paying for an empty room and that’s where yall come in. (Obviously I knew this before but this current idea just hit me while I was talking to her.)

The first newspaper that I went to told me that they are in association with nine (9) other newspapers so I started thinking about the newspaper in OKC and Tulsa and everywhere else. So my thought was that if yall could send me the names, phone numbers and possibly the email addresses of the newspapers in your cities I could email the same information to all of them and then it would be in newspapers all over the states!!!

So what do yall think? Think you could help me out with those names and phone numbers? It would really be a big help to me and it’s the cheapest way I can think of to advertise in as many different states and cities possible.

And on a side note we have kind of a community channel here where they have the time and date and tempter and so on and they post announcements about different activities going on all over town. Well Thursday or Friday I took them an announcement about the fan meet and I saw it today for the first time!!!

Oh my gosh I'm so excited, I just bought 15 episodes of "Out of Control" on iOffer!!! So that's one more show I can add to the playlist for the fan meet!

I've decided that since I do have so many of these classics on video and DVD that I'm going to make one video tape (or DVD if I can find the instructions) of all the old shows for the fan meet.

What I thought would be to use one of my old TV guide schedules and copy it as closely as possible with what I have. For example have one hour of Pinwheel followed by Today's Special and Vegetable Soup and so forth. So in a way I'll be recreating (as much as possible) a full day of Classic Nickelodeon programs for us to enjoy so I hope that everyone, or at least a lot of you, are making plans to be here for it!!!

Grant, I wish all of our members were as on fire as you are. If they were then there would be no stopping us; and actually make that 17, we have two new members today.

And as much as I hate to be a wet blanket on your enthusiasm I have to say that I don't want people to just go out and just invite anyone to join us. I want people here who love and remember Classic Nickelodeon like we do. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have over 100 members and I believe that we'll have them sooner than we think.

But remember I send out 50 invitations a day for people to join us and look how many we've had join. We've had 26 new people join this group since I started doing that. But what good will it be for us to reach 100 members if no one ever talks?

Yes a few of us do post regularly, but what about everyone else? As I said the other day we've got people on this list who have been here since almost the first day we opened and have never said a word. And to be flatly honest now is not the time to be so quiet we NEED to start talking about this fan meet and how many of you are planning on coming b/c I DON’T want to have to cancel it like I did last year.

I was going to save this for another email but I’ve already been on the phone with Dave Coulier’s agent about having him do his stand up act at the local college so that we, as the fan meet group, will be able to go see him for free as part of the weekend events. And I’ve been on the phone with the lady at the college about having them host the concert for us.

Marty Schiff, who also stared in “Out Of Control” with Dave, said that he wants to come and IF IF IF she says yes there is a chance that someone will be here with a few of the Pinwheel puppets!!!!!!!!! Do yall realize how huge that is??? THE PINWHEEL PUPPETS, that’s pretty huge.

Now of course at this point IDK if they will say yes or not but I’m going to call the lady back this week and find out. Just the other day I was at the store buying a few things for decorations for the room. And I’m also going to physically go to the hotel to talk to the guy in charge and see what banquette room they’re going to let us use and talk to him about all the arrangements SO NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO KEEP SILENT!!!

Please believe me when I tell you that there is not a day that goes by that I’m not thinking about this fan meet and worrying that no one will show up. I know the economy is bad, don’t even get me started, but yall said that if I planned this that you would be here for it come hell or high water. So that’s why I keep bring it up so that yall can start planning and saving your money NOW.

Oh by the way, did I tell you that the OFFICIAL DATE for the fan meet is October 1-3 so mark your calendars then help me pray that both the fan meet will be successful and that Dave’s concert will sell out b/c if they don’t I’m on the hook for it. And I don’t have $95 hundreds. Hell I don’t even have the money to pay for the banquette room and that’s only $200, that’s why this year I’ll have to sell tickets for it…….
