Classic Nick Wed. – Dusty’s Treehouse

During the very early days of Nickelodeon there was a lovely children’s program called Dusty's Treehouse which starred Stuart Rosen as “Dusty” and featured the puppets of Tony Urbano.

Dusty lived in, yes you guessed it, a treehouse with his animal friends Maxine the crow, Scooter the squirrel, and Stanley the red-haired spider who wore sneakers. Each day the characters would learn about the world around them and at times Dusty would go on field trips to factories to see how products were made. In addition to the animal puppets shadow puppets were occasionally used to act out fairy tales.

Mr. Rosen was the creator and co-executive producer, and based it on a program he did in 1966-67 on KCET, then an NET station in Los Angeles. The show won eight Emmy Awards.

The show originated from KNXT (now KCBS-TV), the local CBS flagship TV station in Los Angeles where it ran from 1970-1980 and was briefly syndicated nationally (including on the rest of the CBS O&O stations), and then appeared in reruns on the children's cable TV channel Nickelodeon for four additional seasons.

Stuart M. Rosen (born 26 June 1939) is a voice director and voice actor. He is also a writer, he wrote and starred in the TV series Dusty's Treehouse. He has voice directed many cartoons and commercials for television and had live-action roles in Rome and The Huntress.

Classic Nick Wed. – Letter to Mr. Mairs

Classic Nick Wed. – Letter to Mr. Mairs
February 20, 2013

As all of you know I wasn’t able to think of anything to do for today until I read a comment to my Nickelodeon Blog about the show “Kids’ Writes”. So I’m pulling out email that I wrote to Jim Mairs, owner of Kids’ Writes, for you. (This is the only thing I can think of to post today.)

(Old blog post revamped for today.)

Anyone who really knows me knows that I LOVE Classic Nickelodeon programs and have a growing collection of them. But there's one show called “Kids' Writes” that I've never been able to find ANYWHERE, not even from private collectors. So anyway I'm online looking around for more show links and low and behold I find the website of the OWNER of Kids' Writes with an email address and I thought well why not?

That was around the beginning of June of 2007; since I hadn't heard from him I emailed him again with the same exact letter and...HE WROTE ME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the letter I wrote to him then below is his answer to me.

Subject: Kids' Writes

Dear Mr. Mairs,
My name is Peggy Sue Clay and I represent a group called “A New Beginning for Classic Nickelodeon” and we are dedicated to the preservation of Classic Nickelodeon.

The reason for my letter is that I / we were wondering if Kids' Writes was available to download online or if by any chance are there videos / DVDs available?

Our group is small right now but the members that I have spoken to have very fond memories of the show and we'd love to see it on DVD someday [soon]. In fact I have two cassette tapes of the show [cept right now I can only find one b/c of my recent move] and I listen to it often wishing that we had had a VCR back then.

The stories I remember best are “Eddie's Disco Bar”, “Noisemaker Lane”, “Monkey Shines” and of course the theme song. I always wanted to write in but never knew what to write about and now I'm a writer, go figure. *lol*

I was also wondering if there is an official website for the show or any of the other cast members and what is everyone doing these days? Have you ever thought about putting the show back on the air either on Nickelodeon or perhaps on another channel? (Just a note, if you choose the second option could you please make sure that it's a channel that Cable One carries otherwise I'd never get to see it.)

Well I suppose that's about it for now, I'm enclosing the link to our group's website. I know that you're very busy but if you have a chance to stop by we'd all very much love to hear from you and I know they would all have even more questions for you that I've asked. I'm also enclosing the link to my “Kids' Writes” page from my website for you to see but mostly this letter was to tell you how much I personally loved your show and I honestly think it is what helped me to become a writer today. I'm not published or anything (yet *crosses fingers*) but perhaps one day I will be but for now I, and my friends, just enjoy my stories.

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Peggy Sue. Sorry I haven't written sooner. I'm afraid there are not any downloads or DVDs of Kids' Writes at this time. However maybe later this this. (I'm guessing he ment to say at this time.) It was really nice to get your email and hear from someone who enjoyed the program as much as we did making it. I am forwarding your note to all to pass on the good memory. It's quite awhile since Eddie's Disco Bar ran through my head and made me laugh. I'll be smiling all day. Good luck with your site and I will let you know if and when DVDs are made. Thanks again for your kind words, I'm glad to know the shows were fun and memorable to you. Jm

In Search of Saturdays

Welcome to “In Search of Saturdays" a weekly advertising space I’ve designed to help our members find those long lost movies, cartoons, TV shows, toys, games and anything else that we’ve all been looking for, for a very long time.

The instructions are simple. Post your personal “looking for” list here and we’ll all see if we can help you find what you’re looking for.

If you can’t remember the name of a show or toy that’s alright, post what you can remember and maybe someone here will be able to tell you what it is. Also please remember that if you are listing television shows or movies please let us know if you are looking to purchase these shows or if you just want to watch them online. Then we, the members of the group, will help try to help each other and go “in search of” those items for our fellow members.

A good places to start our searches is iOffer ( http://www.ioffer.com/ ) which, in my opinion, is better than eBay b/c you can find lots of shows there that you can’t find anywhere else.

Classic Nick Wed.– A New Beginning For Classic Nickelodeon

Today I would like to tell yall about my Classic Nickelodeon group called “A New Beginning For Classic Nickelodeon”.

The group opened on April 4, 2007 and in the early days we had two owners, my self and my friend Scott but as time passed and Scott’s life became very busy he relinquished full control of the group to me and we moved forward.

Our goal is to help our members relive their childhood memories through active discussions and video & picture sharing. We are not a strict group, I love for members to introduce themselves and share their favorite memories and shows that they loved. Basically any and all posts are welcomed even if they are a bit off topic but of course our main focus is always Classic Nickelodeon.

A couple of years after the group was in full swing I decided to pen the Classic Nickelodeon Fan Blog, which is just another extension of the group and can be found at – http://classic-nickelodeon-fan-blog.blogspot.com/

**PICTURE FILES & LINKS***

I have set up folders for several of the Classic Nickelodeon programs that I know of from the late 70s – the late 80s for members to access and they are feel free to add to them or create your own *personal folders. And even though I haven’t mentioned it in a while I like to encourage them to share any fan fics, fan art, pictures of themselves dressed up as any of the classic characters, I love to see how creative everyone is! Personally I love seeing pictures of everyone’s kids/pets or whatever, I like it to be an active group where members can have fun and enjoy themselves. We are a very small demographic and I want everyone to feel as if we are our own little community b/c we are.

***SHOW LIST***
I have posted a list of shows that aired from 1979-1987 in the file section of our group’s home. To access it members can go to our home page then on the left hand side you will see a list of different services available to the group. Simply click on “Files” then scroll down and go to “PROGRAM LIST 1979 – 1986”.

***NOT ALLOWED***
Please note that the only things that WILL NOT be allowed are links for dating services, sex chat or anything inappropriate. If I see them I will remove them. You will not be banned but if done on purpose I will ask you to please not do it again. Don’t worry I’m very nice about things as long as it is not done on a continuous basis. We are a clean, family-friendly group just like our Classic Nickelodeon use to be.

Classic Nick Wed. – Details About CW’s Tomorrow People Pilot

Details Emerge About The CW’s Tomorrow People Pilot

Craig Byrne January 31, 2013

The CW is casting their new version of The Tomorrow People, from Executive Producers Julie Plec (Vampire Diaries) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow) with a script from Phil Klemmer (Chuck), and KSiteTV has learned some details about some of the characters and situations we might see if it should go to the series.

The pilot is currently casting several roles, and some of them have names that are familiar to the 1970′s British ITV series. Things could always change, and it’s quite possible some names and situations may change as well, but here are some of the characters we can [possibly] look forward to.

Stephen shares a name and a similar situation to the character Peter Vaughan-Clarke played in the original Tomorrow People. Also like the original show, Stephen first meets the others in the premiere, and at first thinks it was all a dream – until he uses some telekinesis of his own. He is told he inherited his “genetic mutation” from his dad, and he has a friend named Astrid that he goes to high school with. Astrid seems to be his Chloe Sullivan-Joey Potter type “best friend.” He’s actually being given meds for “paranoia” and those meds get him into a troubling situation. Stephen has a brother named Luca.

Nicholas Young played John in the original series, and there’s a John in this one, too. Although each of them possesses the “three T’s” – teleportation, telepathy, and telekinesis – teleportation is John’s specialty. Love triangles seem already set up as John is jealous of Cara’s chemistry with Stephen.

Cara (perhaps named after the original show’s “Carol”) speaks telepathically, particularly to Stephen. Has anyone called Laura Vandervoort for this yet? She’d be perfect, and she’s played a “Kara” before, so the names would be similar.

Russell is another of the Tomorrow People. He’s Cara’s brother and a “handsome bad boy.” It sounds like there are several Tomorrow People beyond those named, as well.

Jedikiah also shares a name with a character from the original series. (The first episode of the old show was actually called “The Slaves of Jedikiah.”) He knows Stephen’s family, and seems to lead a program called ULTRA that deals with folks like the Tomorrow People. He tries to convince Stephen that John and Cara aren’t being honest with them. In other words, he’s bad news.

As with the previous series, Tomorrow People are unable to kill.

The computer TIM still factors in to things, and the base of the “Tomorrow People” seems to be a subway station hundreds of feet below Manhattan. Hope they don’t run into any turtles down there… terms like “saps” (the original series’ name for people without powers) also come into play.

Although things could change, does this sound like something you’d watch? Leave some comments below!
