Special Delivery - Water Babies
When
a 12-year-old chimney sweep is wrongfully blamed for being a thief,
he makes a run for it and ends up jumping into a violent river. There he
encounters a civilization of anthropomorphic underwater creatures.
Before he can return to the surface and clear his name, however, he must help
rescue his new friends, the Water Babies, from their nemesis. Featured voices
include those of James Mason, Bernard Cribbins and Tommy Pender. The film
starts and ends similarly to the book, though in the book Tom actually dies,
and is only allowed above the sea on a temporary basis. The movie also adds a
whole new subplot, involving a Killer Shark, an Electric Eel and the mythical
Kraken, who decides whether or not Tom can return to the surface. There are
also several invented characters, which Tom befriends on his quest: Jock, a
Scottish lobster, Terence, an effeminate star struck Seahorse, and Claude, a
foppish French swordfish.

Classic Nick Wed. – Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings
This simple classic 5-minute cartoon program was produced in
the early 1970s by FilmFair Productions in London for Thames Television and was
based on the writings of Edward McLachlan that was originally broadcast around
teatime in Britain. In America children fell with Simon and his chalk drawing
friends when they were featured on Captain Kangaroo where it was narrated by
Bob Keeshan instead of Bernard Cribbins; it also aired on Nickelodeon’s
Pinwheel, and after that, on Romper Room. In Canada it was narrated by Ernie
Coombs and shown on CBC Television, while the Ontario public network,
TVOntario, aired the original British version.
The show centers around a boy named Simon who has a magic
chalkboard, magic in that whatever he draws on the chalkboard become real in
"The Land of Chalk Drawings". Almost everyday Simon climbs over a
fence near his home with a ladder to visit his friends in the land of chalk
including his chalk-drawn friend Henry. Stories often revolve around the
unintended effects that Simon's drawings have on the Land of Chalk Drawings,
such as when an upset Simon draws a picture of his angry self, which proceeds
to go on a rampage and various other adventures.
== New Episodes ==
A new version, currently being broadcast on Teletoon,
features a new theme song, an updated outfit for Simon, blue and white colors
in Simon's home world, and replaces his friend Henry with a new friend, a girl
named Lily. In this new version, Simon wears a striped T-shirt, shorts and
trainers, instead of a necktie.
== Simon In Popular Culture ==
The series was later parodied on NBC's Saturday Night Live
by Mike Myers, however unlike the British series, the SNL sketches took place
in Simon's bathtub, in which Simon shows, and discusses, drawings that
correlate with his life.
Simon is also an award users can build on the popular
Internet game BrokenPictureTelephone. It is awarded to users by other users who
feel the drawer has the drawing skills of a 4 year old.

The Water Babies
Tomorrow night, Sept. 17th, the Family Network will be airing the Classic Nickelodeon Special Delivery "The Water Babies".
This is an awesome classic and one of my faves. It blends live-action with animation as they tell the story of Tom, a young chimney sweep, and his adventures to save his new friends The Water Babies.

Classic Nick Alert!!!
I’m sorry yall, I was going to try to get this information to you yesterday but we had a big storm come through and I had to unplug the computer. Then we wound up loosing power for over half an hour and this is the first chance I’ve had to get this to you.
There are a few Classic Nickelodeon programs coming on later today (Sept. 2nd) so if you haven’t seen them or don’t remember them or whatever here’s you’re chance to see them.
The first is the remake of the original “Tuck Everlasting” which is based on the book by Natalie Babbitt about a family that lives forever. (Personally I like the original better but the remake is still really good.) This was a Special Delivery on Nick around…’82…maybe a little later.
This is the story of a family that will live forever and of young love. It stars Alexis Blebel and William Hurtly and costars Sissy Spacek. All times given are for the CENTRAL TIME ZONE so you’ll need to check your local listings.

Next is a Classic Nickelodeon reference to a Special Delivery called “Clever Jack”, a musical version of Jack in the Beanstalk, which stars Lucie Arnaz as the host and preformed by the First All Children’s Theater. Filmed in 1985 this classic stars Ben Stiller as the giant, which is where the Classic Nick reference comes in.
The Biography Channel they will air a biography on Ben Stiller entitled, “There’s Something About Ben Stiller”. The first part of the program features, of course, his younger years and growing up with showbiz parents then moves on to his performance in “Clever Jack”. (That’s him on the left with the red cape over his head.)

It is scheduled to air on the Family Network at 6:30AM on Friday, Sept. 3rd.
