Special Delivery – Wild Rides

Nickelodeon Takes A Roller-Coaster Ride
Ellensburg Daily Record – March 19, 1982

By Debra Morgenstern Katz

Passive viewing is on the way out at Nickelodeon, which wants kids to get involved with television. Their new program “Wild Rides” (March 28) searches for the greatest roller-coaster ride in America – and you are there.

Matt Dillon hosts the half-hour show, which uses a new camera mount to make viewers feel as if they’re in the seat of the ride; the combination of rock music and the noise of the ride itself combine to provide the closest actual experience.

The pilots for “Kids’ Writes,” another show designed to get children actively involved with TV, make encore appearances on March 24 and 26. A troupe of five performers act out the letters, poems, riddles, dreams, songs and compositions that children have sent in, without changing the words or characters. It’s the closest kids can come to writing their own TV show.

Special Delivery - Water Babies

Plot
When a 12-year-old chimney sweep is wrongfully blamed for being a thief, he makes a run for it and ends up jumping into a violent river. There he encounters a civilization of anthropomorphic underwater creatures. Before he can return to the surface and clear his name, however, he must help rescue his new friends, the Water Babies, from their nemesis. Featured voices include those of James Mason, Bernard Cribbins and Tommy Pender. The film starts and ends similarly to the book, though in the book Tom actually dies, and is only allowed above the sea on a temporary basis. The movie also adds a whole new subplot, involving a Killer Shark, an Electric Eel and the mythical Kraken, who decides whether or not Tom can return to the surface. There are also several invented characters, which Tom befriends on his quest: Jock, a Scottish lobster, Terence, an effeminate star struck Seahorse, and Claude, a foppish French swordfish.

Special Delivery - The Amazing Mr. Blunden

My apologies I meant to post this on Sunday. This is one I remember watching on Special Delivery when I was about twelve or thirteen back in the 1980’s. My apologies for it being parted out like this but the original link I had saved is no long working.

Show Title Needed

Classic Nick Wednesday
Show Title Needed

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

The other day I received an IM on Facebook from my friend Andrew. He asked if I could help me him remember the name of a show which aired on Nickelodeon in the 1980’s. I wasn’t able to help him but I thought maybe some of you could. Here is a copy of the conversation we had. If you know the name of this show please post it in the comments below.

Thank you in advance,
Peggy Sue
Advocate for Classic Nickelodeon

Andrew – 1/26, 9:36pm
Hey Peggy Sue, I'm trying to remember the name of this Nick show perhaps you could help me with.

Peggy Sue – 1/26, 9:37pm
I can try. Whatcha got?

Andrew – 1/26, 9:38pm
I can’t remember the name of it I just remember it was about a bunch of urban street kids hanging out trying alcohol, running from gangs who beat up some kids grandpa there’s a dead cat in it that eats a spoiled sandwich it was kind of a creepy show for kids the main characters were this young black woman and this nerdy young kid with glasses

Peggy Sue – 1/26, 9:42pm
How old are you? I'm asking for a reason.

Andrew – 1/26, 9:43pm
38

Peggy Sue – 1/26, 9:43pm
hummm, 7 years younger than me. I don't remember that as a SD. I asked for your age thinking that it may have been something that aired in the 90's which would be after my time.

Andrew – 1/26, 9:44pm
It was early 80s era

Peggy Sue – 1/26, 9:45pm
Well, it could have been an after school special. In December I went thought the list of SD titles that I had and saved all the links to post to my blog as Classic Nickelodeon Special Deliveries. What I discovered was that a couple of titles that I had listed were not SD they were after school specials. But don't give up hope b/c there is still a chance that we can find the title.

I should have access to my Word program tomorrow (have to go buy ANOTHER code for it - I'm seriously pissed about that) Anyway, on Wednesday I will post a special blog asking for the title to this program with the clues you've given me. Surely someone out there would know what it is.

Andrew – 1/26, 9:49pm

The kid blows a horn to alert his friends to arrest the gang that beat up his grandpa that's the last clue I can remember.
