An Autographed Pic From MARC SUMMERS!!!

Check out what FINALLY came on Saturday!!!  Now before anyone goes bonkers asking me how I got this I emailed Mr. Summers the night of the live Double Dare event that was hosted by The Splat back in July. He gave me his assistant’s email and had me get in touch with him. The gentlemen has been very busy and was only now able to send it to me. That being said, I asked him if I was allowed to give out his email address know that all of you would want an autographed photo of your own. His response was:

“They will need to send a self-addressed large envelope to me at:

Ryan Coyne
601 Walnut St
STE 1150w Box 38
Philadelphia, PA 19106”

Keep in mind that this is an standard 8 ½ by 11 photo so the postage on your envelop must accommodate for this. Also, mine was slightly bent b/c the mailman has to put it in my mailbox, if you do not want yours bend you will have to provide cardboard or something to keep it from bending and allow for that in your SASE.

***DISCLAIMER***
IF your photo is damaged or bent no one with the Classic Nickelodeon Fan Blog, the Bring Back Double Dare F/B page, the A New Beginning For Classic Nickelodeon yahoo email group, Mr. Summers or Mr. Coyne is responsible.

Special Delivery – Escape to Grizzly Mountain

In this charming story a boy is moved by the plight of an abused cub kept by an unscrupulous circus owner. As he attempts a rescue of the cub he befriends a Native American trainer troubled by his own collaboration with the cruel circus owner. He tells the boy of a mystical cave where "the pure of heart" can travel back to a simpler past. Realizing that may be the only way to recuse the bear cub the boy sets out to find the cave but when the cub escapes his leash and the boy travels back into the 1841 wilderness and meets Haggerty's mountain man alone. Together they devise a plan to rescue the bear cub which involves Haggerty traveling to the future to help out. As the disclaimer states, this movie may feature Grizzly Adams himself, Dan Haggerty, but it's not about Grizzly Adams. Instead, it's

Special Delivery – Sound Effects Master Fred Newman

Some of you might think this is an unusual choice for a Special Delivery, and perhaps it is, but if you were around Nickelodeon in the early to mid-1980’s then you will remember Fred Newman as the hose of Livewire, a talk show just for kids.

This audience participated style show was designed for kids of all ages, and the show's main focus discussed true current events and stories during those times. They also mixed it up with a variety of musical guests, storytellers and actors. Even Fred himself appeared as a guest teaching the audience about sound and how to create sound.

Livewire was the first Nickelodeon talk show to achieve a CableACE Award. It was also the #1 rated show on Nickelodeon in 1982, and never went below #7 in the ratings during the 5-year span of the show.

On a personal note, I love Fred Newman, he’s talented and funny and to this day I still have a recording of him on cassette tape when he was a guest himself on Livewire. I loved his “personal theme song” that he did, cracked me up!

With that being said I hope you enjoy this lecture by Fred at the Academy of Art University.

Double Dare Week on the Splat!

Hey Guys!

So how many of you watched the LIVED Double Dare stream over at The Splat’s f/b page the other night? I did and thought it was great. I didn’t enjoy contestants (not a fan of “All that”) but all together it was fun to watch. The challenges were great and the obstacle course felt like old times.

That being said this week The Splat television network is airing Double Dare all week! Now, I have Cable One as my provider and they cut the MTV / Nickelodeon package well over a year ago so I won’t be able to watch these but you guys can!

And to help you enjoy it even more Mr. Ben Thompson sent me an email on my “Bring back Double Dare” f/b page. He writes:

Special Delivery – Wild Rides

Nickelodeon Takes A Roller-Coaster Ride
Ellensburg Daily Record – March 19, 1982

By Debra Morgenstern Katz

Passive viewing is on the way out at Nickelodeon, which wants kids to get involved with television. Their new program “Wild Rides” (March 28) searches for the greatest roller-coaster ride in America – and you are there.

Matt Dillon hosts the half-hour show, which uses a new camera mount to make viewers feel as if they’re in the seat of the ride; the combination of rock music and the noise of the ride itself combine to provide the closest actual experience.

The pilots for “Kids’ Writes,” another show designed to get children actively involved with TV, make encore appearances on March 24 and 26. A troupe of five performers act out the letters, poems, riddles, dreams, songs and compositions that children have sent in, without changing the words or characters. It’s the closest kids can come to writing their own TV show.
