Nick Fan Con Update

About a week or so back I received an application for a grant from the Economic Development Cooperation (EDC). This grant would pay for the convention so we may still have a chance. They will make their decision next month so please keep this in your prayers.

IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN THIS PLEASE CALL THE EDC/CoC OFFICE AND LET THEM KNOW!!! 580-482-0210 – ask for Linda or Roger.

In the meantime, here are the possible dates and a list of guest stars and the event schedule.

NickCon 2019 Update

For me this has been a VERY, VERY long road but it will be well worth it when we are finally able to bring my dream into fruition. Now, with that, I have bad news, and then I have better news so here we go.

When we last saw our heroin she has just missed a call from her contact at Nickelodeon legal department. Not being discouraged she (I) called back the next day and…got a busy signal. Naturally. But the woman called me back and said that Nickelodeon does not endorse fan gatherings of any kind therefore they will not allow us to use the Double Dare set for our NickCon event. Very sad indeed. For as big as they are you’d think that they would be happy that SOMEONE out there in the world remembers them before they were even Nickelodeon, and they said they did but still won’t let us use the Double Dare set.

My next question to her was, do you have a problem if we asked Marc Summers to come down by himself without the Double Dare set? She said that he was free to make that decision on his own but still they will not endorse our event.

When I contacted Mr. Bush, President of the Altus Chamber of Commerce with that news he too was discouraged however after a few emails we have decided that we do not want this event to die off just because Nickelodeon will not support us. He also said that he is going to start looking at upcoming dates and locations for the event!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are approaching the fuse! – In other words, we are about to take our first steps to really getting this thing off the ground!

Now, before we all go running around like chickens with our heads cut off in sheer joy (and for me that’s very hard right now) let’s take a moment to breath. There is still a lot of work to be done and I have not asked Marc if he would be like to, or if he would be available to, come because I wanted to talk to Brian (Bush) about it first.

At the moment of this posting the following guests have agreed to attend, they are just waiting on dates:

Patricia, from Old School Lane

Scott and Adam, from The Orange Years (hopefully they will be available)
Matthew Klickstein (hopefully he will be available)

Other guests are being discussed but we will have to wait and see.

So, for now, that’s what’s going on. Needless to say, I am very excited but I’m still trying to keep my head glued on. I’m very happy and thankful to Brian for sitting down with me and listening to this idea and I’m very thankful to have him helping me with it. If any of you would like to thank him, please post your comments and I will make sure that he sees them.

**NICK CON UPDATE**

This morning I met with the President of the Chamber of Commerce about this idea… and he thought it was a good idea! He said it was definitely unique and that no one has ever done anything like this before and even talked about having a Double Dare event here in Altus! He said that he was going to start scouting out locations where we could possibly have it at. And he even liked the poster I made for it. I think he even liked it b/c I said I didn’t want to do this until 2019 in order to raise any funds needed and to work out all the details.

So as of right now I need to contact Marc Summers to see about bringing Double Dare to the event, but I added him to the poster b/c I figured that there is a good chance he will say yes. Other ideas I have for guests would be Fred Newman (Livewire & Doug) along with Jeffery Weber, former executive producer of Livewire.

So that’s the word for now, I’m going to contact Marc and or his assistant and see what I can find out. I’ll keep you updated but at this point it looks pretty good. Needless to say, I am VERY excited!

I contacted Marc (Summers) and that told me that I need the contact information for Cyma Zarghami, president of Nickelodeon. I called Nickelodeon directly and was on hold for almost an hour. It would probably be best if I call in the morning however on Wednesday s I have a standing appointment, but I’ll try when I get home. But put it this way, when I know, you guys will know.

**NICKCON UPDATE**

First, I would like to say thank you to everyone who are following my blog, have liked my pages and joined my various groups on Facebook. right now it may seem like these communities are small but hopefully they will grow large enough to help make this happen.

As of right now I can confirm that two (2) former Nickelodeon stars who love this idea and have agreed to be guests *IF* this convention can get off the ground. I can also confirm that an author and two film makers have also agreed to be guests as well giving us an updated take on the network. That leaves one guest I still need to talk to, please help me pray they say yes and that their fees are reasonable.

Also, today I spoke with two ladies in my community who had some good ideas for me which gave me an idea of who to talk to in regards to sponsorships for this event. I can’t fund it myself so I will need help with planning, execution and most of all financially.

Former "Full House" star Dave Coulier has wed longtime girlfriend Melissa Bring in Montana.

Coulier and his new wife exchanged vows on Wednesday in front of guests that included his former "Full House" co-stars Candace Cameron Bure (DJ Tanner), John Stamos (Uncle Jesse) and Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler).

Coulier and Bring announced their engagement last month.

I know I don’t post weekly like I use too but I HAVE to get through this course. For those of you who don’t know I’m taking a writing course with The Institute of Children’s Literature and I’m about half way through. Anyway on to the email!

Thank you for sharing this article with us. Your question to me was: “How many shows can you name from the list?” The easiest way for me to answer this question is to comment on each show individually.

 

 1. Out of Control

While I don’t remember watching this apparently I did b/c the first time I saw Dave Coulier do, “cut-it-out” on Full House my first reaction was, “Hey that’s the guy from Nickelodeon!”

 

2. Eureeka’s Castle, 3. Adventures of the Little Koala,

4. Count Duckula & 5. Don’t Just Sit There

These were “after my time”, I stopped watching Nickelodeon after I graduated high school in 1987.

 

6. Standby: Lights, Camera, Action!

Loved this show then and love it now and I wish it was still on the air especially now that I want to get into filmmaking. I can remember watching several episodes of this with my brother and I still remember when Leonard Nimoy showed us how to create a haunted house using double sided tape, a roll of cotton and Epsom salt. Yea, talk about cool!

 

 7. Kids' Court

This was another one that was “after my time”.

 

8. PopClips

This was on for such a short time that I have no memory of it but I did watch Nick Rocks: Video To Go.

9. Think Fast!

10. Turkey Television

I don’t really remember if I watched this or not but I probably did.

So those are my answers for the shows they listed and now I’m going to list a few of my own (in alphabetical order). I may have written about some of these shows in the past but they’re still worth mentioning here.

 

The Adventures of Black Beauty

This family classic is just that, a classic show. Centered on the adventures of a “very beautiful” black horse. Black Beauty is a program that has truly endured the test of time; not only is the original 1970’s version on DVD it has also been added to Hulu.

 

Hocus Focus

Puppeteer Brad Williams stared as “Krispan” who journeyed into the future to learn about our world by watching short films.

 

Matt & Jenny On The Wilderness Trail 1850

After their parents die Matt (Derrick Jones) and his sister Jenny (Megan Follows) must search for the rest of their family. With the help of friends Kit (Duncan Regehr) and Mr. Cardston (Neil Dainard) life on the trail one big adventure.

 

Nick Rocks Video to Go

Pretty self-descriptive, this was a show that featured 80’s videos. I can remember watching videos on there that I never saw anywhere else like Luis Cardenas - Runaway and Like A Cannonball by Menudo.

 

Kids’ Writes

Young people wrote in and a talented cast of actors acted out the stories, poems and songs.

 

Spread Your Wings

If you ever wanted to travel then Spread Your Wings was the show for you. This program was featured kids from around the world in their everyday lives.

 

Studio See

I don’t remember a lot about this show but I wish I did, all I know is that I’d love to see it again.
